Leeford wins 'Hard Bat'
Report on the Hard Bat. October 4th 2008
47 entries this year and well contested throughout. Some memorable encounters, such as the Brian Dyke vs Terry Greenwood game in the 2nd round, when at 21-20 in the second set, Terry's shot took the top of the net and dropped over. Young Ray Lockington who took 10 & 15 points off Pierce Stretch in round three. Brian Fox, who was outplayed by John Shepherd at 21-17, 21-12. Josh White & Pierce Stretch met in the semi finals and it was White who had the upper hand winning 21-16, 21-17. The biggest shock of the night came from newcomer, Leeford, who proceeded to carve his way past some good players on his way to the final. Shepherd had the honour of being being the only player to take a set off him, but the deciding third set was a comfortable 21-12 to Leeford. In the final, Leeford took the first set 21-13, White replied with a 21-17 win in the second, but Leeford reversed that scoreline in his favour to take the third set and the title.
